The World ID 2.0 protocol “facilitates the identification of bots and verified people on the internet, while preserving privacy in popular apps and services.”
Prior to the update, the platform could already connect to Discord, Talent Protocol, and Okta’s Auth0.
“With a digital passport, people can verify that they are real without revealing their identity, and brands can guarantee the use of their offerings and services as intended,” Worldcoin said.
According to Worldcoin, 2.6 million users have already verified their World ID using the Sphere. In Chile and Argentina, the service was used by 1% of the population, and in Portugal — 2%.
The World ID protocol is based on zero-knowledge proofs. It is a tool that allows people to verify their identity using biometric data or a phone number.
Following the project’s launch, authorities in the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Kenya and Argentina expressed interest.
Earlier, Altman acknowledged issues at Worldcoin. He said that operational processes and overcoming resistance to collecting biometric data remain challenging.
In December, the company announced a grants program for the community, with initial funding of about $5 million.
