Worldcoin Tests Facial Recognition Technology

Worldcoin has announced the commencement of testing facial recognition technology for the World App in select locations.

The new service ensures that access to the World App is granted only to those who have verified their World ID using an orb. The feature is a private 1:1 facial comparison.

The tool is designed to enhance user security in “online shopping, financial transactions [and] app authorizations.”

The World App wallet’s user base has already reached 15 million globally; 6.7 million have verified their “identity” using orbs, according to the organization.

Worldcoin is working on creating a global digital identification and financial network. The protocol verifies a user’s identity through iris scanning.

Regulators in many countries have expressed concerns over such biometric data collection. Authorities in France, the United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Colombia, Argentina, and others have initiated investigations into potential privacy violations.
