YouTube to Introduce AI Tools in Shorts

YouTube has announced the integration of DeepMind’s AI model, Veo, into its short-form video service, Shorts.

Unveiled in May, the neural network can generate 1080p videos lasting about a minute using prompts. The technology competes with OpenAI’s Sora and other video generators like Pika, Runway, and Irreverent Labs.

Veo will be integrated into YouTube Shorts later this year. The tool will enable the creation of “even more incredible backgrounds, bringing to life concepts that were previously impossible to visualize.” The model will update the existing Dream Screen tool.

Users will also be able to generate six-second video clips for Shorts using prompts, add scenes to videos for smoother transitions, and connect the overall story seamlessly.

Other announcements include new AI features in the YouTube Studio app, allowing the generation of titles, thumbnails, and video ideas.

In August, YouTube began testing a new feature for content creators, Brainstorm with Gemini, based on Google’s AI. It enables video creators to brainstorm ideas, titles, and thumbnails.

In September, Spotter launched AI tools designed to assist YouTube bloggers throughout the creative process.
