Yuga Labs makes headway in dispute with creator of 'fake' BAYC tokens

The United States District Court for the Central District of California denied the motion filed by artist Ryder Ripps and Not Larva Labs founder Jeremy Cayne in the proceedings against Yuga Labs.

In June, the company behind the NFT collection Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) accused Ripps and Cayne of issuing and selling ‘fake’ tokens that devalue the original works.

In October, the defendants filed motions to strike Yuga Labs’ objections and the suit, filed in bad faith under California’s anti-SLAPP statute. The court denied these requests.

“Our suit to hold Ripps and Cayne liable for their obvious and flagrant misappropriation of Yuga Labs’ trademarks is rightfully moving forward with this decision,” the company spokesperson said in a comment to The Block.

Earlier, in December, the law firm Scott+Scott filed a lawsuit against Yuga Labs on behalf of BAYC holders and ApeCoin token holders ApeCoin.
