Zuckerberg Envisions AI Glasses for Hundreds of Millions
Meta co-founder Mark Zuckerberg envisions a future where everyone wears devices equipped with artificial intelligence. He shared this perspective during a conversation with Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang at the SIGGRAPH conference, reports Business Insider.
The entrepreneur noted the growing popularity of smart glasses.
“I think eventually you’ll have a whole range of glasses with different price points and levels of technology,” Zuckerberg remarked.
He cited the product from Ray-Ban and Meta as an example. The parent company of Facebook released smart glasses in collaboration with the popular brand in 2021. Two years later, they announced the integration of an AI assistant for them.
“I think AI glasses without a display priced around $300 will become a really big product that eventually tens or hundreds of millions of people will have. You’ll get a super interactive AI that you can talk to,” said the Meta CEO.
At the conference, he highlighted the company’s work on the next generation of smart glasses, designed with current trends in mind.
“The goal was: ‘Okay, let’s constrain the form factor to just look great and pack in as much technology as we can.’ We understand there’s no way to achieve perfection and fit everything we want into the gadget, but ultimately, these will be great-looking glasses,” Zuckerberg shared.
Back in December 2022, CTO of Meta Andrew Bosworth stated that “about half” of the operating expenses of the Reality Labs division are spent on augmented reality. Despite this, it may take years before Meta’s full-fledged AR glasses appear.
In July 2024, media reported Meta’s intention to cut Reality Labs’ funding by 20%.
