NFL Star to Compensate Voyager Clients with $1.9 Million
Former NFL player Rob “Gronk” Gronkowski will pay $1.9 million to settle claims from former clients of the crypto lender Voyager Digital.
According to a settlement agreement pending court approval, the athlete will contribute this amount to a total pool of $2.42 million.
The remaining funds will be provided by NBA player Victor Oladipo and racing driver Landon Cassill, who will pay $500,000 and $25,000, respectively.
Gronkowski became an ambassador for Voyager and a VGX token holder in September 2021.
However, in July 2022, the company filed for bankruptcy. Its estimated liabilities ranged from $1 billion to $10 billion, with approximately 100,000 clients.
In the same year, a group of Voyager investors sued Dallas Mavericks owner and billionaire Mark Cuban.
“The plaintiffs have already reached agreements with Cassill, Gronkowski, and Oladipo to pay millions in compensation, leaving co-defendants Cuban and the Dallas Mavericks as the remaining defendants for trial in November,” the documents state.
Cuban is accused of promoting unregulated crypto products of Voyager Digital and participating in a Ponzi scheme. In February 2023, he gave his first testimony in court.
In May, Voyager announced the commencement of obligation payments. According to court documents, creditors were promised a return of approximately 36% of funds.
