NFT marketplace OpenSea hires former Lyft CFO

Bryan Roberts, the former chief financial officer of ride-hailing service Lyft, has joined the OpenSea NFT-marketplace team. He will take on a similar role there, Bloomberg reports.

Previously Roberts worked at Walmart and Microsoft. In 2014 he moved to Lyft, and five years later one of Uber’s main rivals went public on Nasdaq.

The executive expressed optimism about OpenSea’s prospects, comparing its potential to eBay in the mid-1990s.

“As your company grows that fast, it’s foolish not to think about an IPO. The marketplace will be well received on the public market, given its growth,” he said.

In July 2021 OpenSea raised $100 million at a valuation of $1.5 billion. By the end of August, trading volume on the platform exceeded $3 billion.

Earlier reports in November said the company targeted a $10 billion valuation following a new round of funding. In the same month daily sales on OpenSea doubled thanks to a surge of interest in the Bored Ape Yacht Club.
