Our analysis is ongoing, but our initial assessment indicates that the impact was limited, none of the impacted accounts had 2FA enabled, and access was obtained via valid account credentials.

The marketplace noted that affected users had not enabled two-factor authentication (2FA) and urged everyone to enable it.

“We have not observed signs of a platform compromise. Our team is in touch with a small number of affected users. We continue to analyse what happened,” said Nifty Gateway.

One user, сообщивший about the $10,000 NFT theft, closed his Twitter account.

Another affected user рассказал that hackers hijacked assets worth $150,000 and used the account-linked credit card to purchase $20,000 worth of tokens.

Later, he said that Nifty Gateway resolved the issue and returned all stolen assets. He also confirmed that he had not enabled 2FA in his account settings.

I’ve learned that you obviously need 2FA on every account. This seems obvious, but I was lazy in one moment and got punished for it. I’m so thankful and pleased to say that @niftygateway was able to resolve this issue and completely restored 100% of the stolen art! 👏 😄 🥲
