Nvidia CEO on AI’s Role in Combating Its Own Dark Side
The most effective way to combat the most egregious uses of artificial intelligence is through the application of even more AI, according to Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang.
“To detect the dark side of AI, artificial intelligence will be required. The reason is quite clear: it will quickly generate fake data and false information. Therefore, someone with very high speed will be needed to detect and disable it,” the entrepreneur noted.
The company head compared the use of artificial intelligence to the growth of the cybersecurity industry. According to him, “almost every company” is at risk of hacking or attack “virtually at any time.”
“To protect oneself, more advanced cybersecurity will be required. We just need to be sure that we are ahead, and for that, AI will be needed,” Huang added.
The entrepreneur urged US authorities to practice using the technology and become experts in the field, as well as to build an AI-based supercomputer.
The Nvidia CEO also highlighted the growing energy consumption of artificial intelligence. In the future, AI-related data centers will consume “10 or 20 times more” electricity.
Data centers should be built where there is excess energy, Huang believes.
As reported in a study, the amount of electricity consumed by AI has likely already surpassed the costs of bitcoin mining.
Earlier, Bernstein analysts suggested a potential shortage in the US in two years if the growth rate of AI data centers continues.
In June, Nvidia became the world’s most valuable company for the first time, with a market capitalization of $3.34 trillion.
