Nvidia mining limiter bypassed on GPUs using a utility

NiceHash developers bypassed Nvidia’s mining limiter for a portion of RTX 30 series GPUs LHR.

Using the QuickMiner utility, specialists restored full performance on most GPUs, except GeForce RTX 3050 and GeForce RTX 3080 12 GB, which use the new LHR algorithm.

Several independent testers confirmed the utility’s viability. After unlocking, RTX 3080 Ti performance reached nearly 117 MH/s, up from the previously available 80 MH/s.

Data: NiceHash.

For now, the method works only on Windows PCs and supports a single algorithm, Dagger Hashimoto (Ethash).

Earlier in February 2021, Nvidia released the updated LHR line of RTX 3000 GPUs, for which halved device performance when mining Ethereum. The company aimed to steer GPUs toward gamers’ needs.

But later miners learned to return GPUs to up to 70% of their original performance and circumvent the lock by mining two digital currencies simultaneously.

In March 2022, on the popular Chinese marketplace Goofish for used goods, custom GPUs appeared that enable bypassing Nvidia’s mining limiter by leveraging a mobile processor.
