NYDIG buys Bitcoin-payment service BottlePay
The NYDIG, a platform focused on institutional players, has acquired the British startup BottlePay. The Block reports, citing sources.
According to them, the deal value was between $280 million and $300 million. A NYDIG spokesperson declined to comment.
BottlePay’s app is built using a Lightning Network scaling solution. At the end of 2019, British company Block Matrix announced the closure of the project due to the entry into force of the EU’s Fifth Anti-Money Laundering Directive.
However, in July 2020 the bitcoin-payment service pledged to release a beta version of an improved application.
In February 2021, Bottlepay raised £11 million (~$15.5 million) in a seed round with the participation of billionaire Alan Howard, partners at Goldman Sachs, venture firm FinTech Collective and NYDIG.
In March 2021, the developers announced leaving beta and the launch of the payments sending feature, tips and donations in Bitcoin.
In April NYDIG acquired the commercial lender Arctos Capital for an undisclosed sum.
