The NYM mixnet’s Finney testnet has caught up with Tor in the number of nodes. At the time of publication, Finney runs 8,080 nodes, while 8,191 nodes.
With support from the non-profit Cosmos Interchain Foundation, Finney has been joined by several major Tendermint validators: Dokia Capital, P2P.org, Hashquark, HuobiPool and Figment.
“We are proud to be part of the Nym project. Protecting user data at the protocol level using privacy-preserving technologies is an important step on the path to a free internet that belongs to users,” says Andres Solanot of Figment.
According to Nym representatives, Tor operates on donations and grants. Tor operators have no economic incentives — they cover the costs of running the system themselves. Operators of the Nym network receive rewards in the network’s native tokens.
The NYM mixnet — a decentralized infrastructure that provides confidentiality for data of applications and services. The Nym network supports crypto wallets, DeFi protocols, messaging apps and IoT devices.
At the time of publication, the project is in testing. In the near future, developers will add support for delegated staking in Finney.
In February 2021, the Nym team published the project’s white paper. In 2018, the project received venture funding from Binance’s venture arm.
