Odessan entrepreneur pockets 16,000 BTC after divorce settlement
An Odessa-based entrepreneur, during a court proceeding aimed at reducing his tax burden, mentioned the 16 000 BTC (about $698 million at the time of writing). The court materials were опубликованы in December 2021, but local media only drew attention to them recently.
According to the document, in 2017 the businessman and his wife signed a property-division agreement, under which the cryptocurrency passed to him.
The same number of coins appears in the August decision in a tax dispute related to this person.
Because the court documents do not contain the Bitcoin wallet address, it’s impossible to verify the accuracy of this information.
On September 8 in Ukraine adopted the “On Virtual Assets” law (VA). The document regards VA as an intangible asset, dividing them into secured and unsecured. The President returned the law for reconsideration.
As noted, in the 2020 declarations Ukrainian officials reported a total of 46 351 BTC. The NACP said that would check these details.
