OKCoin gains Malta and Netherlands regulators’ approvals, plus Puerto Rico license

The Bitcoin exchange OKCoin has received a ‘principled’ approval from the Malta regulator and new licenses in the Netherlands and Puerto Rico.

According to the statement, after the Malta Financial Services Authority’s formal approval, OKCoin will become the only US-headquartered exchange to obtain a Class 4 license. This will allow it to offer clients cryptocurrency trading in addition to publicly available wallet services.

Registration with the Dutch Central Bank will enable expanding partnerships with financial institutions and integrating payment systems across Europe, OKCoin said.

“Europe is at the centre of our global growth plans, and in 2021 we added almost 25 team members to better serve clients in this region,” — emphasised Hun Fan, CEO of the company.

In Puerto Rico the exchange received a money-transfer services license, enabling it to begin serving users in this US jurisdiction.

Back in 2020, OKCoin opened an office in Singapore as a hub to service traders in Asia and Oceania.
