OpenAI CEO Predicts Unimaginable Prosperity and Climate Solutions Through AI

Humanity stands on the brink of an era of unimaginable prosperity, according to OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

“Technology has taken us from the Stone Age to the agrarian, and then to the industrial era. Now, computational power, energy resources, and human will are paving the way to the intelligence age,” he noted.

Every individual will have a personal AI team of experts in various fields, and children will be able to work with virtual tutors for personalized learning in any subject and in different languages. Humanity will be able to create any desired software and improve the healthcare system.

“In the next couple of decades, we will be able to do things that would seem like magic to our grandparents,” Altman noted.

AI models will function as autonomous personal assistants capable of solving tasks on behalf of their owners.

“We might have superintelligence in a few thousand days. It may take longer, but I am confident we will achieve it,” he said.

Thanks to AI, solving climate issues, creating a space colony, and fully understanding all of physics will eventually become commonplace, according to the OpenAI CEO.

“With nearly limitless intelligence and abundant energy—the ability to generate great ideas and bring them to life—we will be able to accomplish a great deal,” Altman emphasized.

To provide AI to as many people as possible, the cost of computing must be reduced and made abundant. Without sufficient infrastructure, artificial intelligence will become a scarce resource, leading to conflicts. It will become a tool for the wealthy, noted the head of the AI startup.

In September, OpenAI introduced a new large language model, o1, trained using reinforcement learning for complex reasoning tasks.

Earlier, it was reported that the firm is in talks to raise $6.5 billion at a valuation of $150 billion.
