OpenAI Enhances ChatGPT and Reduces Subscription Costs
OpenAI has introduced improvements to the turbo versions of GPT-4 and GPT-3.5, while also reducing the subscription cost for the latter.
Introducing two more model updates:
• Updated GPT-4 Turbo preview, completing tasks like code generation more thoroughly and fixes a bug with UTF-8 encoding
• New GPT-3.5 Turbo next week, with input prices reduced by 50% and output prices reduced by 25%https://t.co/mNGcmLLJA8— OpenAI Developers (@OpenAIDevs) January 25, 2024
The updated GPT-4 Turbo performs tasks such as code generation “more thoroughly than the previous model” and is designed to reduce instances of “laziness,” where the AI does not fully respond to requests.
OpenAI has also made changes to GPT-3.5, enhancing its accuracy and fixing bugs in generating responses in non-English languages.
The subscription cost for the newer version has been reduced by 50% to $0.0005 per thousand tokens. On weekends, the discount will be 25% ($0.0015).
Additionally, developers have introduced new “embedding” models: text-embedding-3-small and text-embedding-3-large. These will replace the older text-embedding-ada-002 function, released in December 2022.
Embeddings are a tool that helps neural networks more effectively understand and utilize written text by converting it into a format that computers can process.
The innovations provide improved performance and an increased context window size.
The company has also introduced new ways for developers to manage API keys and interact with the interface.
Earlier, OpenAI introduced a corporate subscription plan for the chatbot with a 32 KB context window and customizable GPT plugins.
Back in November 2023, the company’s head, Sam Altman, conducted a presentation where he discussed upcoming ChatGPT updates and new tools for developers.
In September, OpenAI released a major update for ChatGPT, enabling the AI to “see, hear, and speak” for the first time.
