OpenAI Introduces ‘Memory’ Feature for ChatGPT
OpenAI has begun testing a ‘memory’ feature for its ChatGPT chatbot, designed to retain information discussed in conversations to enhance user interaction.
We’re testing ChatGPT’s ability to remember things you discuss to make future chats more helpful.
This feature is being rolled out to a small portion of Free and Plus users, and it’s easy to turn on or off. https://t.co/1Tv355oa7V pic.twitter.com/BsFinBSTbs

While using the neural network, users can request it to remember specific details or allow it to autonomously select relevant data. ChatGPT’s memory will improve with continued use of the tool.
“You mention that your daughter loves jellyfish. Ask ChatGPT to create a greeting card for her, and it will suggest a jellyfish wearing a party hat,” the developers explained with an example.
The memory feature can be disabled in the settings. Additionally, users can ask ChatGPT to forget a specific memory or delete it manually.
During the testing phase, access to the new feature will initially be available to a limited group of ChatGPT Free and Plus users.
The OpenAI team will also add the memory feature to GPTs extensions. Developers will have the autonomy to decide how to implement the technology. For instance, Books GPT will suggest the next book to read based on preferences and previously read works.
Earlier, media reported that Sam Altman’s startup is developing a system of autonomous AI assistants capable of managing a user’s device to perform specific tasks.
In January, OpenAI released enhancements for the turbo versions of GPT-4 and GPT-3.5, as well as reduced the subscription cost for the tool.
