OpenAI has introduced a new feature allowing users to connect with ChatGPT via phone call or WhatsApp message at 1-800-ChatGPT (1-800-242-8478).

Voice communication is available to U.S. subscribers, while messaging is open to all users.
The phone call feature is compatible with landline devices. Initially, U.S. residents will receive 15 minutes of free voice calls per month. The availability and scope of the service may evolve over time.

“Our mission at OpenAI is to make artificial intelligence useful for all of humanity, and part of that is making it accessible to as many people as possible. Today, we take the next step by bringing ChatGPT to your phone,” commented OpenAI’s Head of Product, Kevin Weil.
The phone experience mirrors interacting with ChatGPT using the enhanced voice mode. The chatbot can answer questions and translate text into other languages.
Future plans for WhatsApp include adding image analysis and web search capabilities.
In December, OpenAI made its ChatGPT search engine available to all users, including those without a paid subscription.
