OpenAI has unveiled ChatGPT Health, a specialized section for health-related consultations.

The solution was developed with the involvement of “hundreds of doctors” in response to high audience interest: according to the company, over 230 million people weekly inquire about their health with the chatbot.

This new feature operates in an isolated environment. Conversations in ChatGPT Health are separate from main dialogues, protected by special encryption, and do not mix with the main model’s memory. This ensures that medical data does not affect the context of regular conversations.

Communication occurs in the usual chat format, but the model considers connected information. Users can ask questions like “How is my cholesterol changing?” or “Summarize my recent tests,” upload files and photos, and use voice mode.

The section also allows for custom instructions, such as prioritizing certain questions or excluding unwanted topics.

ChatGPT does not diagnose or prescribe treatment. The AI’s role is to help users interpret information, analyze data from apps like Apple Health or MyFitnessPal, and prepare for doctor visits.

For access to the most sensitive data—electronic medical records—OpenAI has partnered with the b.well platform, which complies with HIPAA industry standards. All connections occur only with user consent, which can be revoked at any time.

The development of ChatGPT Health was conducted in collaboration with the medical community. More than 260 doctors from 60 countries participated in its creation and evaluation over two years. 

To ensure quality control, OpenAI has created the HealthBench system. It evaluates AI responses not by abstract accuracy but by clinical criteria: safety, clarity, appropriateness of recommending a specialist, and context consideration.

In the coming weeks, access to the section will be opened to all web and iOS users. At the time of writing, the service is in a test mode for a limited group in the United States.

Back in late December, OpenAI added the ability for personalized ChatGPT settings and launched an in-chatbot app store.
