OpenAI Offers ChatGPT to US Federal Agencies for $1
Over the next year, OpenAI will provide ChatGPT Enterprise to US federal agencies for $1. This effectively makes the company’s technology “virtually free” for federal executive branch employees.
“The efforts are aimed at fulfilling one of the key objectives of the Trump Administration’s AI Action Plan: to make powerful AI tools accessible to the entire federal government, allowing workers to spend less time on bureaucratic tasks and paperwork, and more time on their primary mission: serving the American people,” the company stated.
OpenAI noted that AI is already assisting government employees:
- Employees in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania using ChatGPT saved an average of about 95 minutes a day on routine tasks;
- In North Carolina, 85% of participants in a 12-week experiment conducted by the state’s Department of Treasury reported a positive experience using the chatbot.
Under the new initiative:
- Each federal agency will gain access to advanced models through ChatGPT Enterprise for $1;
- A special community, individual learning platforms, and introductory training sessions have been created for civil servants;
- New security measures will be implemented to protect confidential information.
In July, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that personal conversations with ChatGPT are not legally protected. He noted that, if necessary, a court could request all information shared by users with the chatbot.
Earlier, the US Department of Defense awarded contracts worth up to $200 million to companies Anthropic, Google, OpenAI, and xAI for developing AI solutions in the security sector.
