OpenAI is preparing to launch an AI agent codenamed “Operator,” capable of using a computer to perform tasks such as writing code or booking trips on behalf of a person, according to Bloomberg, citing sources.
In January 2025, the product’s API release for developers is planned, media reports have revealed.
Previously, AI startup Anthropic introduced a similar tool. The updated version of the Claude 3.5 Sonnet model can interact with a computer like a human—moving the cursor, clicking buttons, and typing text.
OpenAI is working on several projects in the field of agent creation. One of the upcoming releases involves a universal tool capable of performing tasks in a web browser, the agency reports.
OpenAI Advocates for US and Allies’ Cooperation
Sam Altman’s company has presented a project urging the US government to “aggressively” support the development of AI technologies and infrastructure. Journalists from FedScoop have reviewed the document.
OpenAI considers cooperation between the US and its allies crucial for effectively competing with China. It suggests forming a “North American AI Treaty” to facilitate access to talent, funding, and supplies for technology creation, the publication writes.
The firm recommends that authorities support costly energy projects and create economic zones where the permit issuance process is expedited. Plans also include bringing nuclear reactors back into operation and expanding their capacity with the help of the US Navy.
Earlier, media reported on OpenAI’s work on its own AI chip.
In September, it was revealed that Altman plans to implement a large-scale project to create AI hardware and systems worth tens of billions of dollars.
Experts have noted that AI has hit a ceiling due to the depletion of high-quality training data.
