Under the agreement, up to 15,000 scientists will gain access to the reasoning-focused neural network o1. Additionally, OpenAI will collaborate with Microsoft to deploy one of the models on Venado, a supercomputer at the Los Alamos National Laboratory. This facility is dedicated to AI and high-performance computing tasks.
As part of the partnership, scientists will use the startup’s technologies to enhance the cybersecurity of the U.S. energy system, identify new approaches to disease treatment and prevention, and deepen the understanding of fundamental mathematics and physics.
The work with nuclear weapons will focus on “reducing the risk of nuclear war and ensuring the security of nuclear materials and weapons worldwide,” the company stated.
Back in July, OpenAI announced a partnership with the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the birthplace of the atomic bomb.
