OpenAI’s ChatGPT goes live in Ukraine

Ukraine has been removed from the list of countries in which the ChatGPT chatbot is blocked, according to a post on the Telegram channel of the country’s minister of digital transformation, Mykhailo Fedorov.

“ChatGPT is now available in Ukraine. The Ministry of Digital Transformation team has worked long on this decision — official letters, calls and meetings with senior leadership,” he wrote.

The chatbot will not operate in temporarily occupied territories to avoid anti-Ukrainian propaganda, Fedorov clarified. According to him, ChatGPT “speaks Ukrainian well, unlike Russians.”

“Thank you to OpenAI for the sound and entirely logical decision. A country that fights for freedom and progress surely has the right to access revolutionary technologies,” emphasised the head of the Ministry of Digital Transformation.

Earlier, OpenAI co-founder and CEO Sam Altman described ChatGPT as “a cool technology”, but “a terrible product”. He said the chatbot “was not designed for people”.

Earlier, Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak “advised caution” regarding ChatGPT.
