OpenAI’s Paid Subscribers Surpass One Million
AI firm OpenAI has announced that it has surpassed the milestone of one million users who have purchased subscriptions to the corporate versions of ChatGPT, according to Bloomberg.
This figure represents the total number of individuals registered to use the Team, Enterprise, and Edu services.
Just under half of the subscribers are based in the United States. Outside the US, the chatbot is most popular in the business sectors of Germany, Japan, and the United Kingdom.
In August 2023, OpenAI launched the ChatGPT Enterprise version with additional features and privacy assurances. In January 2024, the startup released ChatGPT Team for small companies, followed by ChatGPT Edu for university students in April.
Meanwhile, The Information, citing sources, reports that OpenAI executives are considering introducing high-priced subscriptions, which could cost up to $2000 per month. These are planned for future models Strawberry or Orion.
The price increase is attributed to the high costs of maintaining AI and training new, more advanced neural networks.
Media estimates suggest that OpenAI’s potential loss in 2024 could reach $5 billion. Sam Altman’s startup plans to spend about $7 billion on AI maintenance and training, with an additional $1.5 billion allocated for personnel.
Back in August, news emerged of OpenAI’s discussions to attract new investments at a valuation exceeding $100 billion.
