OpenSea reports data breach affecting users

OpenSea, the leading NFT marketplace, disclosed a data breach affecting user data.

An employee of our email vendor, https://t.co/6vM4WAcJal, misused their employee access to download & share email addresses with an unauthorized external party.

Email addresses provided to OpenSea by users or newsletter subscribers were impacted.https://t.co/Osb6qqkqZZ

The breach stemmed from a misuse of access by an employee of Customer.io — the email-delivery service used by OpenSea.

\n\n\n\n

The worker transmitted NFT marketplace customers’ email addresses to a third party; OpenSea warned of potential phishing attempts.

\n\n\n\n

The platform said attackers could attempt to contact potential victims using an email address that closely resembles the official opensea.io domain.

The platform reported the incident to law enforcement.
