OpenSea’s chief financial officer steps down

Brian Roberts announced his departure as chief financial officer of the NFT marketplace OpenSea. He will remain with the company as an advisor.

Roberts joined the company in December 2021. Previously he served as CFO at Lyft, having also worked at Walmart and Microsoft. The executive built OpenSea’s financial team from scratch.

“I had a rare opportunity to build a financial team from scratch and recruit the best people. […] I remain incredibly optimistic about Web3 and especially OpenSea,” he wrote.

It remains unclear who will succeed Roberts. He left the company amid a downturn in crypto prices and softer volumes on NFT marketplaces.

In recent months, many executives from crypto firms have left their posts.

On September 27, Brett Harrison, president of FTX’s U.S. unit, announced his resignation. On the same day, Alex Mashinsky left the post of chief executive of the Celsius Network, the crypto-lending platform.

As reported, Kraken said on September 22 that co-founder Jess Powell will leave the post as CEO. His place was taken by former chief operating officer Dave Ripley.
