Opera to integrate ChatGPT into its browser

Kunlun Tech announced plans to integrate the ChatGPT AI chatbot into the Opera browser. CNBC reports this.

The company did not disclose timelines for deployment or available AI features for users. It is also unclear on which platforms the chatbot integration will appear.

According to StatCounter data for January 2023, Opera ranked sixth in the global browser market with a 2.4% share.

The leader remains Google Chrome. The browser’s share in January was 65.4%. In second place was Microsoft Edge, accounting for 4.5% of the market.

In the third quarter of 2022, Opera had an average of 321 million active users per month. The firm said that its gaming browser business helped lift annual revenue to $85.3 million.

The parent company Kunlun Tech is based in Beijing. In December it announced work on a range of open-source AI-generated content.

Kunlun Tech shares have risen more than 40% over the past year. Opera’s assets rose just over 10% in that period.

Earlier in February 2023, Microsoft implemented ChatGPT in its Bing search engine.

In December 2022 Opera announced a partnership with the Alteon LaunchPad platform to integrate NFTs into its ‘crypto browser’.
