Developer Ben Edgington announced the launch of the Ethereum 2.0 deposit contract in the coming days. According to him, the genesis block in the network is expected to appear in six to eight weeks.
The deposit contract allows sending ETH from the existing network to Ethereum 2.0, confirming the authority of the stakers. Edgington noted that Phase 0 of ETH 2.0 should be launched as soon as possible.
“I think people are tired of tests. It’s time to move forward,” he wrote.
After the genesis block appears, developers will lock 500 000 ETH for staking. To move to the next deployment stage of the Ethereum 2.0 network, about seven days will be required.
Edgington stressed that the forecast should not be regarded as an official statement.
According to analytics firm Glassnode, the number of addresses with a balance of 32 ETH or more reached a new high of 124,390.

Edgington’s message appeared a few days after launch of the final Zinken testnet with a three-day lifecycle.
As previously reported, the Spadina network did not become a “general rehearsal” for creating the genesis block of Ethereum 2.0. Clients faced delays in finalisation due to issues with configuration, bootnodes and calculations.
