Systems built by Roskomnadzor and its subordinate companies for blocking are the next generation of technologies, which are implemented for the same purposes in China. This was stated to the YouTube channel «Редакция» by IT expert Grigory Bakunov.
«For many years we have said that we are moving toward a Chinese Internet, a Chinese firewall, but we have quietly overtaken China in this area,» he said.
In his view, if Russia begins to block YouTube, technically for this, as with restrictions on other services, it will involve equipment ТСПУ:
«All of these systems that Roskomnadzor and its subordinate companies are building have made substantial progress in recent years, primarily thanks to counter-threat technical measures. And now this [block] will pose no problem.»
Executive director of the Internet Protection Society, Mikhail Klimarev, noted that VPN usage is growing in Russia, although this metric cannot be measured yet due to the large number of such services.
Earlier, Russian authorities do not rule out banning VPN and have already blocked more than a dozen.
«You must understand that a VPN service is not a website. It is a service that was created to circumvent blockages, and they know what to do when they are blocked,» noted Klimarev.
