Members of the NSSMC as part of the Ukrainian delegation took part in an educational project OSCE to reduce the risks of money laundering through cryptocurrencies.
Participants in the meeting reviewed specific cases of the use of virtual assets in illicit activity, notably for financing terrorism and evading sanctions. They identified the main categories of crypto-market participants whose activities should be monitored, and discussed possible mechanisms for verifying their transactions.
Delegates also discussed the shaping of national legislation on the circulation and taxation of cryptocurrencies.
In the near term, NSSMC plans to publish the full text of the draft sector-specific law regulating virtual assets for public discussion.
For details on the planned changes to the regulation, see ForkLog’s special feature.
As reported, at the end of 2022 OSCE and UNODC began to develop a project to combat the criminal use of cryptocurrencies in Ukraine.
