The final Ethereum 2.0 testnet launched on August 4. On the first day, 20,349 validators joined it, locking more than 650,000 ETH. Medalla uses test coins that have no value.
On August 14, in the network a disruption occurred that split the test blockchain into four chains. The forks could not interact adequately with one another due to a four-hour time difference. On August 17, developers fixed the bug.
Later, Prysmatic Labs blog editor Raúl Jordan said, that the issue would not affect the timing of the Phase 0 launch of the second version of the protocol on the mainnet. It is expected to occur by the end of the year.
