Owner of Euthanised Squirrel Accuses Crypto Community of Profiteering and Launches Own Token

The owner of a squirrel named Peanut and a raccoon named Fred, Mark Longo, launched a token on Solana called “Justice for Peanut and Fred” (JUSTICE) to honour the memory of his pets.

“The government will not get away with this. Justice will prevail. And not just for Fred and Peanut. We will show the world that crossing boundaries is not acceptable,” he stated.

The owner of the euthanised animals also accused the crypto community of profiteering from his trauma.

“The fact that people want to make money off this is nothing but despicable,” he declared.

Members of the Peanut the Squirrel (PNUT) meme coin community protested, reminding of Longo’s ~$50,000 donation, which he immediately sold.

Peanut the squirrel became popular on social media, amassing over 500,000 followers. On October 30, New York State Department of Environmental Conservation officials searched Longo’s home, citing laws prohibiting the keeping of wild animals as pets. On November 1, the squirrel and raccoon were euthanised.

The incident sparked public outrage and took on a political hue. Trump supporters described the situation as “government overreach.” Elon Musk also criticised the authorities’ actions.

Earlier in November, an unknown user missed the opportunity to earn over $1.6 million on the PNUT token.
