Oxford City to Start Selling Tickets for Bitcoin

English football club Oxford City has entered into a partnership with cryptocurrency platform CoinCorner, under which it will begin accepting payment in Bitcoin.

Oxford City competes in the Southern Conference — the sixth tier of English football. After the season’s start on 6 August, fans will be able to buy tickets for the club’s home matches, food and drinks at the stadium with the Lightning Network.

CoinCorner sponsored the club and, in its honour, released a limited‑edition Oxford City FC Bolt Card. As part of the partnership, the players’ shirts will feature the Bitcoin logo.

“We believe this move will set a trend, as digital currency becomes the new norm for sports fans and event attendees across Britain,” said CoinCorner CEO Danny Scott.

In February 2022, the blockchain platform Tezos signed an agreement with Manchester United. Under the agreement the project logo appeared on the training kits of the men’s and women’s teams.

In the spring, the Bitcoin exchange OKX became a partner of Manchester City. In July the company announced a sponsorship agreement with the club for the 2022-2023 season.

Back in May, Chelsea agreed to cooperate with the WhaleFin platform for trading and lending cryptocurrencies.
