Oyster Labs Unveils Web3 Smartphone for TON Ecosystem

Developers at Oyster Labs have introduced a Web3 smartphone based on The Open Network (TON) blockchain. The presentation took place on April 8 during a festival in Hong Kong.

The Universal Basic Smartphone (UBS) provides users access to over 600 dapps within the ecosystem. It enables users to earn from their own data and trading the native token, as well as receive cashback from purchases at 14,000 stores worldwide.

The UBS features rather modest hardware specifications: it is built on the Mediatek Helio P22 chipset, with an 8-core processor, 6/128 GB of memory, and a 4050 mAh battery. Camera and screen specifications have not been disclosed.

The device is priced at $99, with an additional $30 for shipping.

ForkLog has requested comments from the TON team, which has yet to publicly comment on the smartphone.

During the Web3 festival, the TON roadmap for 2024 was presented. It includes the implementation of gasless transactions, the Wallet 5.0 update, and the development of a new cross-chain technology called Teleport. The team also announced plans to expand into the Asian market.

Previously, the TON Society community partnered with AI company HumanCode for 1 million TON to implement an identity verification mechanism.
