Last week, Telegram administrators blocked hundreds of calls for violence in the United States, according to the founder of the messenger, Pavel Durov.
He said that Telegram’s team is monitoring the situation in the United States, even though American users account for only 2% of the messenger’s user base.
“Telegram welcomes peaceful debates and protests, but our policy explicitly forbids the spread of public calls for violence,” he said.
Moderators continue to remove such content, Durov added.
An appeal that could have been a lawsuit by the American nonprofit Coalition for a Safer Web demanding Telegram be removed from the App Store. Plaintiffs allege that Telegram disseminates antisemitic, racist and neo-Nazi content.
