Pawnshop employee embezzles 3 million rubles; funds transferred into cryptocurrency

The court found the resident of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky guilty of embezzlement in the particularly large amount. She transferred the stolen funds into cryptocurrency, according to «Kamchatka-Inform».

The defendant worked at a local pawnshop. In June 2017 she began falsifying pawn tickets, entering details of other people known to her.

“As collateral items, she submitted costume jewellery. The valuable collateral items left by real clients of the pawnshop she stole and resold to resellers,” the Kamchatka Krai prosecutor’s office said.

In 2018, to avoid exposing the criminal scheme, the accused staged a pawnshop robbery, stealing more than 44 thousand rubles from the safe.

Over the entire period of her activity, the woman caused losses to the pawnshop totaling more than 3 million rubles.

During the trial, she fully admitted her guilt.

The court sentenced the defendant to five years’ imprisonment in a general-regime penal colony.

Earlier in Cherepovets shut down illegal casinos that operated under the guise of Bitcoin exchanges.
