Police detain two suspects in Tyumen over mining-related fraud

Police have detained two suspects in Tyumen in connection with a mining-related fraud scheme, according to the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

In mid-December, several victims contacted police in Irkutsk Oblast after becoming targets of criminals attempting to purchase equipment for cryptocurrency mining or to rent premises for setting up mining farms. Subsequently, the suspects failed to fulfill their promises and attempted to flee with the money.

“In several cases, the victims provided their equipment for placement in a ‘mining hotel’, which disappeared,” the Ministry of Internal Affairs noted.

Law enforcement received 16 similar reports from victims.

The detainees confessed and said they had stolen funds from around 40 people. The exact number of victims is being determined. During the arrest, the suspects were found with 400 000 rubles on them.

A criminal case for fraud has been opened.

Earlier in December in Irkutsk, a DPS traffic police patrol detained suspects in the theft of ASIC miners.
