Police uncover an illegally connected cryptocurrency mining farm in Kryvyi Rih resident's apartment

A Kryvyi Rih resident illegally connected to the power grid to mine cryptocurrency, police in the Dnipropetrovsk region said.

Law enforcement carried out a search of his apartment and seized mining equipment. It is reported that to cut electricity costs, the Kryvyi Rih resident tampered with the meter using a magnet.

A criminal case has been opened for electricity theft, with the extent of the damage yet to be determined.

As a reminder, mining in Ukraine is not prohibited, provided it does not involve an unauthorised connection to the electricity grid for that activity.
