Polkadot launches first public parachain Shell

The Polkadot community approved upgrading the Shell parachain to the Statemint level on the mainnet.

Shell has been operating on Kusama’s experimental network since May 2021 at the Statemine level.

\n\n\n\n

After the referendum, the Polkadot network sent two messages to the parachain with instructions to upgrade to Statemint. The first wrote a value into storage to create the genesis state.

\n\n\n\n

The second message sanctioned the runtime upgrade, including all functions to create and manage fungible and non-fungible assets.

\n\n\n\n

The team recommended a ‘conservative’ rollout of features with significant restrictions on parachain usage. Initially, users will not be able to teleport DOT tokens into the network.

\n\n\n\n

The developers recommended keeping this restriction in place until the dispute-resolution protocol is connected, ensuring security.

\n\n\n\n

More features will become available after sufficient testing on the Kusama network.

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

“With the launch of Statemint and five other parachains, the network is ready for the next wave of innovations in Web 3 applications,” the statement says.

The winners of five parachain slot auctions were projects Acala, Moonbeam, Astar, Parallel Finance and Clover Finance.
