
Putin signs into law penalties for violating the sovereign Runet law
Russian President Vladimir Putin signed law that provides for penalties for violating the requirements to ensure a stable Runet.

The document introduces administrative liability for telecom operators for violations of provisions on installing technical means within the framework of the so-called sovereign Runet law. For legal entities, fines amount to up to 500,000 rubles, and for repeat violations — up to 1 million rubles.

The law also imposes penalties on owners of “information resources” for censorship of Russian citizens and the media. For legal entities, fines will amount to up to 1 million rubles, and for repeat violations — up to 3 million.

Earlier, penalties for violating the provisions of the sovereign Runet law were proposed last year. The latter came into force on 1 November 2019.
