Rare BAYC NFT Sells for 275 ETH

A rare non-fungible token #1726 from the Bored Ape Yacht Club (BAYC) collection was sold for 275 ETH (approximately $688,000 at the time of the transaction).

The token was owned by an NFT whale known as franklinisbored, who was previously one of the main holders of BAYC tokens.

“End of an era,” wrote franklinisbored on his X profile.

His address holds numerous NFTs from various collections, including derivatives of the popular CryptoPunks.

In February, a court ordered artist Ryder Ripps and Not Larva Labs NFT marketplace founder Jeremy Cahen to pay $8.9 million to Yuga Labs over a BAYC trademark infringement case. The legal battle had been ongoing since June 2022.

In August 2023, BAYC NFT #8585 was purchased for a record low of 153 ETH (about $254,000). The asset had lost 80% of its value over 11 months.

In July, a rare BAYC NFT #3953 was sold for 200 ETH (~$372,000 at the time of the transaction), significantly less than its peak value.

In October, Yuga Labs announced a restructuring and staff reduction. The studio identified the metaverse Otherside, launched in spring 2022, as a key focus.
