Reddit investors urged to buy $30 worth of Bitcoin in support of El Salvador

A Reddit user going by the handle thadiusb proposed to members of the r/Bitcoin community to buy $30 worth of Bitcoin on the day Bitcoin is recognised as legal tender in El Salvador.

He calculated that if all 3.3 million forum members support the initiative, they could inject a one-off $99.5 million into the digital-gold ecosystem.

Thadiusb stressed that in doing so he aims to support El Salvador’s decision and is not seeking to pump Bitcoin’s price.

“El Salvador is the first country to adopt Bitcoin. This is a very important milestone. Let us show everyone that Bitcoin has value,” he said.

At the time of writing, the post had already attracted more than 2,000 comments, with most supporting the idea.

As reported in early June, El Salvador passed bill recognizing Bitcoin as legal tender. The initiative was backed by the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI). The act will take effect on September 7.

American operator of cryptocurrency ATMs Athena Bitcoin said it plans to deploy 1,500 devices in El Salvador. Their installation began in August.

The authorities introduced the cryptocurrency wallet Chivo, in which they promise to give $30 in Bitcoin upon registration.
