Riot Blockchain buys new batch of Antminer units for $6.1m
The American mining company Riot Blockchain announced the purchase from Bitmain of an additional 2,500 Antminer S19 Pro units for $6.1 million.
Delivery is scheduled for December this year. The funds for the purchase are drawn from the company’s working capital.
Along with the new batch, Riot Blockchain expects to deploy 9,450 new devices by year-end and increase the hash rate to 842 PH/s. This figure is 50% higher than the company’s previous hash-rate estimate.
Riot Blockchain expects that by June 2021 the total number of operating ASIC miners will reach 22,640 units, and the hash rate will exceed 2 EH/s.
Forecast for Riot Blockchain’s hash rate growth by June 2021
In July, Riot Blockchain received and installed 1,000 Bitcoin miners from Bitmain. A month later, the company signed a new contract to purchase 8,000 Antminer S19 Pro units for $17.7 million.
Another agreement between the two firms provides for the delivery of 5,100 devices to Riot Blockchain in February 2021. The deal was worth $11.2 million.
