The petition’s author spoke on behalf of the Ripple community. He urged the incoming head of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission to pay attention to the ‘harm caused to XRP holders by the SEC’s actions’.

The Ripple community also demanded an investigation into why the lawsuit was filed on the last day of Jay Clayton’s tenure as SEC chair.

At the time of writing the petition had gathered 2,800 signatures.

Earlier in January 2021, Ripple requested information about why the SEC does not classify Bitcoin and Ethereum as securities.

In April the court granted the company’s motion and ordered the regulator to disclose ‘the interpretation and views’ regarding the two largest cryptocurrencies by market capitalization.
