Ron DeSantis Again Opposes the Digital Dollar
The US presidential candidate and Florida governor Ron DeSantis again criticised CBDC, speaking out against the introduction of a digital dollar in the country.
In a speech at the Family Leaders Summit, the politician promised to ban CBDCs in the event of victory in the elections:
“If I become president, on the very first day we will do away with the central bank’s digital currency. Unconditionally, entirely. There will be none in this country.”
In May the governor announced a ban on CBDCs in the state. He clarified that the decision would also affect the assets of foreign central banks. In his words, using such currencies would lead to ‘a transfer of powers from consumers to the central authorities’.
In July he signed the corresponding document.
In April another US presidential candidate—Robert F. Kennedy Jr.—also criticised CBDCs. He called such payment instruments ‘the ultimate mechanism for social surveillance and control’.
Earlier, DeSantis said he would protect Bitcoin in the event of victory.
