Roskomnadzor Again Blocks Crypto Portal Bestchange

Roskomnadzor has once again blocked the domain of the online cryptocurrency-exchange aggregator Bestchange.ru. The project team said on Twitter.

The exchange was blocked by a ruling of the Kotlas City Court in the Arkhangelsk region for disseminating prohibited information. The court deemed the offer to buy Bitcoin and pay for certain goods with it to be such information.

The court decision was issued on January 22, 2020. In addition to Bestchange, the block also affected news sites Coinpost and Cryptorussia, educational portals Prostocoin and Cryptowikipedia, the online flower shop “Lavka” and the mining equipment seller Bitok.

Coinpost editors stated that they had not received any information about the case being opened or the court’s decision until July.

\n

According to RBC, Roskomnadzor notified Bestchange of the block in July but did not block the site because the company had documents for an appeal.

\n

On August 4, a ruling extended the deadline for filing an appeal; by August 27 the court was to begin sending notices to the parties.

\n

Roskomnadzor has not blocked Bestchange for the first time. In 2017, it became one of 40 blocked online exchangers. In April 2018 the ruling was overturned.

In March 2019, Bestchange was again blocked, and in May the court sent an appeal to Roskomnadzor to lift it.

\n

In July 2020, the State Duma passed the law “On Digital Financial Assets,” which will take effect on 1 January 2021. It prohibits paying for goods, services and works with cryptocurrencies.
