Roskomnadzor demanded a response from Google, Twitter, Facebook and WhatsApp to a previously submitted request concerning the localization of Russian users’ data on the territory of the Russian Federation.
As Interfax reported to the agency, the companies must respond by the end of May. If this does not happen, they face fines for violations of Russian data protection laws.
Roskomnadzor said it had sought a response as part of planned supervisory measures.
The agency noted that Apple and Microsoft had previously confirmed localization, with LG, Samsung, PayPal, Booking and other companies also complying with the requirements.
Earlier, Roskomnadzor fined Facebook and Twitter for failing to provide information about the localization of Russian user databases on the territory of the Russian Federation.
