Roskomnadzor warns of blocking six VPN services

Roskomnadzor сообщил о намерении заблокировать шесть VPN-сервисов из-за их использования для ‘bypassing the restriction on prohibited information’.

Blocking could affect Hola! VPN, ExpressVPN, KeepSolid VPN Unlimited, Nord VPN, Speedify VPN and IPVanish VPN.

Roskomnadzor also asked enterprises and organisations to report use of these services ‘to ensure the operation of technological processes’.

Earlier, in 2019, Roskomnadzor required owners of ten major VPN services to connect to the state system and restrict access to sites blocked in Russia; most refused to do so.

In May 2021, Roskomnadzor head Andrey Lipov warned that access to VPN services that do not bring activity into compliance with Russian law would be restricted.

Since June 17, the agency blocked VyprVPN and Opera VPN due to ‘a threat to circumvent access to illicit content’.
