The Russian Ministry of Energy plans to extend the ban on cryptocurrency mining in Zabaykalsky and Buryatia. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Energy Yevgeny Grabchak in the podcast “What Will Happen to Mining in Russia?”, reports TASS.
The regulatory framework for year-round restrictions has already been prepared, noted the deputy.
“This is a single energy zone with a common deficit. The ban will only affect the south of the Irkutsk region, then it will extend to Zabaykalsky and Buryatia,” explained Grabchak.
In April, the Russian government imposed a complete ban on mining in the south of the Irkutsk region.
In Zabaykalsky and Buryatia, restrictions previously applied only during peak energy consumption periods: in 2025, they were from January 1 to March 15, and in subsequent years from November 15 to March 15.
From 2025 to 2031, mining is also prohibited in 10 regions, including Dagestan, Ingushetia, and Kabardino-Balkaria.
