
Russian and Belizean prosecutors to monitor illicit bitcoin activity
Russian and Belizean Attorneys General Igor Krasnov and Marin Magali Yang signed a programme of joint measures for 2022–2023. It provides for information exchange on cybercrime, including those related to the cryptocurrency market, writes Kommersant.
Belize will provide the Russian side with information on illicit circulation of cryptocurrencies, financing of terrorism, corruption and environmental offences. The programme also includes mutual legal assistance in criminal matters, the identification, arrest, confiscation and return of assets acquired through crime.
The measures were developed within the framework of the cooperation agreement between Russia and Belize dated 25 September 2018.
Back in February, Rosfinmonitoring, together with law enforcement and the Academy of Sciences developed the concept of service, which will enable tracking cryptocurrency transactions. The project was promised to be completed by the end of the year.
In August it emerged that the module for monitoring and analysing transactions will be created by a structure controlled by Sber. The cost of the works was put at 14.7 million rubles (about $201,700).
